In the early 90's, my long-time friend, Dr. James Cox, and I met various times to discuss how we could make an impact on our community. We wanted to combine our visions, and in the early stages, we contacted like-minded leaders in our community to help create the Fort Wayne Children's Foundation. The Fort Wayne Children's Foundation is a 509(a) (1) publicly-supported entity. Our fund-raising efforts are through ongoing charitable giving, as well as proceeds from our annual Charity Event, held in the fall of each year. Our goal is to establish a corpus of funds that will remain intact, allowing us to continually fund our endeavors in helping prevent child abuse in perpetuity.
We have supported various organizations, and annually reevaluate their effectivenesss for future funding. Our hope is to break the ravages of what we call the "circle of abuse," enabling children to help achieve their fullest potential.
Our Foundation is unique in several ways. 100% of the net money raised is used for our mission. In a typical year, approximately 50% of our funds are distributed in the community, while the other half is being added to increase the corpus of the Foundation. We have no paid staff. The entire board is volunteer, and all of our vendors providing services for the Foundation are asked to embrace our vision by keeping their fees at reduced levels. This is truly a labor of love, and persons involved volunteer their time, talent, and expertise.
We invite you to explore this website, and you will find more detailed information on the many aspects of our work. Please consider supporting our cause to help prevent child abuse. I'd like to personally invite you to our annual charitable event! Details are available for the 8th Annual "Fort Wayne Summit City Chef Competition" Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Mirro Center on Parkview's North Campus on the site's link "2016 Charity Event", and I can promise you will have fun, while making a difference for the children of our community.
